Living with Psoriasis: Care, Triggers and What to Expect

Psoriasis is a long-term skin condition, but it can be managed well. Understanding your triggers and sticking to a treatment plan makes the biggest difference.

Psoriasis causes red, scaly patches, most often on the elbows, knees, scalp and lower back. It is not contagious. Flare-ups are often triggered by stress, skin injury, infections, cold weather or certain medicines.

Daily care that helps

  • Moisturise daily to reduce scaling and itching.
  • Avoid scratching and picking at patches.
  • Take medicines exactly as prescribed, even when the skin looks better.
  • Keep follow-up appointments — treatment is adjusted as your skin changes.

If psoriasis affects your daily life, confidence or sleep, tell your doctor. Good control is possible, and support matters as much as the prescription.
